While I was working on the iVelhop project, I created a PSD file that would enable me to quickly create the 4 iOs app icons. You can the specs for the icons on the apple icon guideline page : 57 and 114 pixels for the application icon iPhone, 72 px for the icon iPad and 512 for the App store icon. With this kit you can have a quick preview of what your icons will look like with the glossy effect and border radius.
I enhanced the .psd with the “slices”function. To activate slices, go to “view > show > slices”. Once your icons are ready, go to “save for web and devices”and you will get your 4 files, named with the size suffix in PNG24 format.
Quick note : there are two ways for generating iOs icons :
- Leave iOs generate the glossy and rounded corners. To do that, just hide the layer mask of the icons (this will hide rounded corners) and hide the 2 glossy layers. Then export, and let iOs do the magic.
- you can also force iOs not to add those effects, but I would not advice it.(to do so add the UIPrerenderedIcon key ti the Info.plist file ). In this case, export icons with the glossy and border radius effect.
